🛻 RATTLE-BUZZ-BOOM! Your child jumps out of bed and drives eleven monster trucks: through fire hoops, over the waves, past midnight pumpkins and out to the zebras.

🏁 A story that shows: no truck is too big or too wild for them. At sunset the engines rest, and your child climbs down, the hero of the parade.

What buyers said

  • She spotted herself on the second page and went completely quiet, then asked me to read it again straight away. It has not left her bed since.
    Helen Z.
  • I ordered it for my grandson three days before Christmas and had no faith it would arrive. It did, and his mother cried before he did.
    Margaret B.
  • I was fully prepared for the face to be almost right and slightly wrong. It is not. It is him, in a way I did not think a machine could manage.
    Tom R.
  • We have about four thousand photos of that first Christmas and not one of them gets looked at. This gets looked at every week.
    Priya S.
  • The bit that got me was his name printed inside the story rather than stuck on the cover. He thinks the book was written about him, and I am not correcting him.
    Marcus D.
  • I read the whole thing twice before I paid, which is the only reason I paid. Everyone else wanted the money first and a photo of my daughter with it.
    Claire N.

How it works

  1. Upload a photo

One child, face clearly visible. The photo does not have to be perfect: you see the result before you decide.

  2. See the character

Less than 30 seconds later the character is drawn in the style of the book, from that photo.

  3. Read it together

The whole book opens on screen. Make it again if it is not right, buy it if it is, and read the printed one with them.

The book being read

  • A mother reads the first page, the alarm clock and the morning light, the child on her lap on the sofa.
  • A father reads the purple-truck page at bedtime, the book open in the lamplight.
  • A grandmother and the child on the living-room floor with the last page, the parade at sunset.

Drawn from your photo

The character keeps the face, hair and colouring of the child in the photograph, drawn in the book's own style.

As seen in

On every page

The character is placed into each scene of the book, not only onto the cover, which is the part that makes a child look for themselves on the next page, and read on to find out.

What this book is

What is true of every title in this shop.

  • Your child on every page

The character is drawn from the photograph and appears in each scene, not only on the cover. Their name runs through the text.

  • The book they read with you

Research suggests children smile, talk and stay with a story more when it is about them. A child who wants the book open is the child who starts reading it back to you.

  • A printed book

Hardcover, thick paper, made for one child once the order is placed. A book, not a printout.

  • He counts the trucks on every spread

We are now on day fourteen of reading this. He can name all eleven trucks by spread now, including which one is his favorite and why. This was not a skill I expected from a picture book.

  • Good for a kid who cannot sit still

My son sits still for exactly one thing and this is it. The trucks make it urgent somehow, even on the twelfth read. I do not understand it. I respect it.
    Jordan L.HawaiiThe Monster Truck Parade
  • He makes engine sounds for each one

He narrates each truck as we turn the page. The sound effects are different for each one and he is completely consistent about which is which. I could not reproduce this system if asked.
    Blake R.MaineThe Monster Truck Parade
  • It made him the authority at daycare

He carried it in his backpack for a week. He showed every kid at daycare. He told them that was him in the book. This is factually accurate and I let him have it completely.

  • The hero looks exactly like him

His signature look is a red shirt and muddy knees. Both are in the book. The art team either has magical abilities or a very good algorithm. Either way, my son believes they've met and I am not correcting him.

  • He brings it to the table at dinner

He brings it to the table and points at the parade page while I'm trying to serve food. We've had this negotiation for three weeks. I've stopped fighting it. The trucks eat with us now.

  • My nephew hasn't put it down since Christmas

Gift for my nephew. His mother texted me two days later to say he'd been sleeping with it. She asked what I'd given him. I sent her the link. She's ordering one for his sister.

  • He has started drawing his own trucks

He fills pages with trucks now, same shapes, different colors. He told me he's making the next parade. I keep every drawing. The book started this and I think it's the best thing it has done.

  • First book he asked to bring to grandma's

He's packed toys, he's packed games, he has never once packed a book to bring somewhere. This book went in the bag the first time we mentioned grandma's. It lives in his overnight things now.

  • The parade spread is worth the price alone

There's a spread where all eleven trucks are lined up together. He puts his finger on each one and works through them slowly like he's checking attendance. It takes longer than the rest of the book combined. Worth every second.

Questions

What makes a good photo?

One child, face clearly visible, roughly facing the camera. No side profiles, nothing covering the face.

What age is this for?

From their first picture books to about eight, and it works differently at each end. At two they point at themselves on the page. At four they ask for it again. At six they read the words back to you. Each book says the ages it was written for.

What happens to the photo?

Photos kept only for the preview expire under our preview cleanup policy. When you continue to checkout, your photo and book details are copied to a private archive and retained indefinitely for making your book and future reprints. They are not used to train models.

Can the character be drawn again?

Yes, and you can say what should be different before it is.

Is the story different for each child?

The story stays the same. The name and the character change with the child.

How long does delivery take?

5 to 7 working days to a UK address, printing and binding included, because every book is made after it is ordered. Order a little ahead of a birthday.

What about returns?

A book made for one child cannot be resold, so it cannot be returned on a change of mind. That is why you read every page before paying. If it arrives damaged or wrong, we replace it: write to us.
